Data, Information and Information Management

After a long time of holidays, I have started my foundation program with new zeal and passion. On the 1^st week of this trimester in Information technology class, our lecturer conducted an ice-breaking session to get know each other. She also told us about the rules and regulation of class and advised us to become sensible person and behave nicely with each other. 

After that, she informed us about the courses outline, assessment method, blog development, portfolio, lab assignments and lecturer’s information. She also gave us a brief detail about learning outcomes(LO) and Information technology(IT).On the 1^st day of week ,she also briefed us about information technology and its importance in daily life.
In the starting of this week1, she taught us about the computer system by defining it ,
“ a programmable machine/device that carries out what it has been instructed to”
our lecturer also taught us about computer operation system that was about instruction given to computer by using different processes. 
we learnt about the input ,output , storage and processing of computer .when we perform an operation and give instruction as a input ,then computer start processing and give us output as an information. We also learnt about the whole process of computer to store data when use operations to get out output.
After that, we also learnt about the evaluation of computer .The 1^st generation computer was “Electronic numerical integrator and computer “(ENIAC) that was invented in 1940-1950 by using Vacuum tubes. Then vacuum tubes replaced by transistors in second generation and transistors replaced by integrated circuits (micro-chips)in third generation of computer. After that, VLSI, ULSI replaced the integrated circuits in fourth generation.We also learnt about the upcoming 5^th generation of computer by using artificial intelligence. This generation will be very useful because computer can think, feel and learn about everything.
we also got extraordinary knowledge about the categories of computer and their uses in the development of information technology. We also learnt briefly about the mainframe and supercomputers those are large in size and more expansive than other computer systems. But the most powerful and expensive computer is supercomputer.

The main ideas about Information technology is to get knowledge about data and information. Data is the raw facts and it can be in the form of numbers symbols and pictures. Data is meaningless and unless it processed in computer and convert into information as an output. Information is meaningful and used to persuade, influence and making decisions. Information has two basic concepts ‘Reach’ and ‘richness .Richness has three components “bandwidth”  , “customization” and “interactivity that explains about amount of information and interaction between two organizations.
The last topic was about computer system. Our lecturer elaborate to make it clear by following I-P-O method. Computer system change input (data) into output (information) by processing in the system. It’s necessary to explain about input and output devices those work in computer system.
Input devices that allows user to enter data and instruction into computer and output devices are any types of hardware that conveys information to one or more people.
We also learnt about the Information management that is general term to manage information. It has lot of problems but we have solutions by using new technologies like ‘electronic record management system (RM) ‘, ‘learning management system (LM) and ‘customer relationship system (CRM).
